Meet the Team

Katie Cowen

Katie is a part-time primary PE teacher and is currently enrolled in her second semester of the Masters of Educational Technology program at the University of British Columbia. In her experiences both as a teacher and as a student in the MET program, she has seen first hand how integral augmented reality is in education, allowing learners to bring the intangible into perspective. As an educator, she is excited to have this opportunity to present her findings on mobile augmented realities in science and health, and hopes that some find our resource useful in their own practice.

Chris Clarke

Chris received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Victoria and continued with a Bachelor of Education from Western University. He is currently an English Language Learners (ELL) Middle School teacher working on expanding his educational technologies knowledge to better assist his students in their lifelong learning. He is nearing the end of his time in the UBC MET program and looking forward to the next chapter of his life.

Allison Burnett

Allison comes to the MET program with a business background, holding a Bachelor of International Business and an MBA. Throughout her career, she has always gravitated to roles where technology played a pivotal and disruptive role in the industry. When she started working in higher education, she knew she found her passion. She has held several different roles in the education field, from  administrator to part-time professor to consultant. She is currently a business analyst/project manager with the Medical Council of Canada. Her research interests are focused on how technology is influencing how medical education is delivered and measured. She is particularly curious about the role of social media and mobile technology in medical learning environments, and innovations in medical high-stakes assessment.

Matthew Wilde

Matt received his undergraduate B.Ed from the University of Alberta with a focus in Physics and Math but most of his professional career has been in the field of religious education. He has worked with groups of students from 14-30 years old in this field a classroom educator.  Matt has a passion for technology and its many uses in the classroom, but also is highly interested in research into where the worlds of spirituality, religion, and technology converge. He is interested to discover what role technology CAN play in someone’s spiritual life and what role it inherently CANNOT play – and where those lines are.
