The Problem

In recent years, technology has been integrated into the majority of classrooms in North America for students to engage in different types of interactive learning activities. Technology has a stigma of being a tool that creates a more sedentary, inactive lifestyle for the students using it. On the other hand, educators are trying to find any way they can to integrate aspects of healthy living into their everyday activities that are engaging and fun for the students. With the massive popularity and inundated market of AR, VR and AI, there are very few options on the market for teaching health and nutrition through the use of technology.

The Solution

Lunch Kit Chef is merging the technology and health education market, attending to the needs of the young 21st century learner. Our student-centred approach allows students to gain insight to the world of making healthy, positive food choices, using engaging and interactive technologies to learn, create and view food as fuel for their bodies. We do this through engaging 5-7 minute videos of health and nutrition, as well as allowing students to create and order their own lunch once a month, based on their interpretation and understanding of the lesson content.

Competition

Lunch Kit Chef's main competitors are within the health and technology markets. These companies include GoNoodle, Brain Pop Jr., The Lunch Lady and LunchBox Orders. The advantage Lunch Kit Chef has over the competition, is that we put students at the core of instruction. The students are involved in the whole process from the beginning; learning about healthy foods, choosing what they like, placing the order and finally receiving their lunch. They are the ones creating and ordering their once-a-month lunch based on their own knowledge and preferences, with some assistance from their teacher.

Marketing

Our marketing plan is to feature Lunch Kit Chef in our local monthly school district magazine and our city newspaper. We will work with our local school health nurses who will promote the program community-wide through health blogs, meetings and conferences. We will elicit the participation of community partners such as our local grocery and produce retailers. We intend to present at district-wide conferences and professional development days where teachers and administrators are present. As Lunch Kit Chef expands its reach, we will post on educational blogs, publish articles and share our successes with other districts in surrounding areas.

Opportunity

Our hope is that this program will benefit students, school communities and extended communities in many ways beyond healthy lunches. Lunch Kit Chef initiatives will promote the necessary skills that children require to become healthy, independent and contributing members in their communities.

Cost

We believe health needs to be encouraged and supported more in our schools then it currently is. Our aim is to provide schools and districts wishing to subscribe to our program an affordable cost for our services. The cost of a subscription is based on how many students ages 5-10 in each school would participate in the program. The cost will be determined based on the location and resources available within each community. Our mission is to actively research ways to get local service groups to donate money to schools and districts to help provide funding to low-income families.
